 Melvin Farms is a family farm operated by Richard and Stephen Melvin. The farm is located in the Annapolis Valley (see map, near Canning. Primary crops grown are cauliflower and spinach. The farm consists of nearly 600 acres of prime agricultural land and employs 25 seasonal and 8 full time employees. Our farm has 4000 sq ft. cold storage area as well as packing facilities. Sales and logistics are coordinated by King's Produce Limited providing us with efficient and economical deliveries. The VitaBite logo is our registered TradeMark.  Melvin Farms is affiliated with Kings Produce, a grower owned marketing assn. To maintain our position as industry leaders in the production and supply of wholesale cauliflower and spinach in Atlantic Canada. We intend to accomplish this through pricing, quality, marketing and determination. It is our goal to become year-round suppliers to our local customers in both spinach and cauliflower. Such activities serve to reduce overhead by taking advantage of underutilized human and physical resources. The benefit for our customers is uninterupted service and supply. We have met this challenge with spinach, importing raw product from the U.S.A. and Mexico with subsequent J.I.T. packaging. Our efforts towards cauliflower thusfar have led to three investigative trips to Mexico giving us a relatively good understanding of its potential. 1) Further investments into equipement relating to washing and drying of Spinach. 2) Development of HACCP protocols for spinach processing. 3) Further development of water sources for irrigation of crops. |
